This is what it‘s all about for me, New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the people the glamour and the experience all at the core in the Big Apple, and the sweetest bite of all is our tree hut at the Chelsea Hotel, My first introduction to NYC was in 1995 where I became a resident at the Chelsea. Back in '95 I had come up under contract as a Ford Model, although on that tour I never made it onto the Fashion Week Runway… I’m here now and the bonus is with daughter Yasmin who I then left behind in NZ is now along side Mother Dear for the journey to continue.
Arriving on day one Yasmin, Danny and I were fashionable dressed in our favorite New Zealand designers myself in Trelise Cooper and Yasmin in Ruby and Danny in Michael Patterson, we were only in the door 40 seconds before the photographer from GINZA Magazine snapped away and took note of our labels, later in the day we were interview on our style by STYLE.COM…Big up to NZ Fashion.
Behind the ropes and security are three rooms; the Salon, the Promenade and the Tent being the largest.
Before we enter the rooms and the photographers and videographers are split up into two groups As & Bs (important and not so important) the trick is to get in early into the holding pen and keep moving once they let the rope down or you will be trampled by three hundred photographers behind you all trying to get the best spot on the riser, its male dominated aggressive mayhem and often ends in arguments in five different languages…I keep it cool and polite bar one incident; He was a prick and I was just tried, hungry and grumpy defending my ground.
I’m shooting on the latest SONY 900 its a fantastic camera; 24 mega pixels, I’m shooting large extra fine jpeg files, under the light its aprox 3400K temperature, 400 OSO at F4.5 @200 shutter speed but this varies a little among the Canons and Nikons, For Runway its a little slow with so much information to take in so I’m having trouble getting a crisp fast focus but over today my technique has improved and its all looking good..
Day one Yasmin and I finished editing at 4.30 am…somehow I don't think we can keep this up…seven days to go.
